Home of Brown

The key to figure out "home of Brown" is the understanding the hidden fly fishing phrase in second stanza that's "Put & Take"

Begin it where warn waters halt
And take it in the canyon down,
Not far but too far to walk.
Put in below the home of Brown.

 What is Put & Take Fishing ?

Definition of Term. put-and-take fishery. (English) The placing of hatchery-raised fish of a specific size in waters to be caught by fishermen for a payment.

 It is safe to assume "Brown" to be Brown trout because it's an undeniable fact that Forrest loves fly fishing and exploring the outdoors . So we are looking for home of Brown trout in the Wind river range because that's where the canyon lead us to.




























The Home of Brown in the Wind River Range is MUD LAKE !



It was at Mud Lake the Legend FINIS MITCHELL locally known as "Lord of the Winds" set up his first fishing camp in 1930. Finis transplanted fish supplied by Daniel hatchery all across Wind river range using the HIGHLINE [STOCK] TRAIL. The Winds originally didn't have any fish at all in any of the lakes except a few ,Finis stocked them all by himself. This happened before the State Fish & Game Departments were formally established .


      Wind River Festival is celebrated every July in Pinedale,WY to commemorate Finis Mitchell
It's approximately 50 miles from Green River Canyon to  Mud Lake , which is close to the Big sandy opening , the southern entrance to Wind river range.

 Finis Mitchell i suppose must have been a friend of Forrest Fenn .Finis was born in 1901 and passed away in 1995 one day before his 94th birthday.Finis has written a hiking guide book named "Wind River Trails" in1975 published by The University of Utah Press .

Green River Lake In Pinedale,Wyoming Colorado River is alluded to as "Warm  Waters" because Colorado river waters used to be RED Spanish explorers named the river "Rio Colorado" which means colored river. The end is ever drawing nigh

Highline trail is a point to point trail that begins from the Green River Lake and ends near Meeks Cabin Lake . The end is ever drawing nigh  Fenn ALWAYS draws stick figures aka single Line drawing intentionally to give us a hint ..the key word here is LINE nigh rhymes with HIGH . put it together HIGHLINE TRAIL ! Finis Mitchell used this trail to stock fish all over the wind ranges . The central theme of the poem is Trout Stocking .
